Project Description
Buesing Corp performed the mass excavation, shoring/earth retention, and shotcrete finish walls on this mega Office project in Tempe, AZ. Marina Heights is a development for the State Farm Headquarters and was a collaboration of Ryan Companies (the general contractor) and Sunbelt Holdings, a JV for this project, and Arizona State University (ASU). The project was designed as 5 high rise glass office buildings (some retail) on top of two levels of podium garage. The tallest of the office towers, at 18 stories, will overlook the Tempe Town Lake . At $600 million for the initial development, this project is now ranked as the largest single commercial development in Arizona, edging out Cityscape in Phoenix. When complete, the office space will compromise of 1.9 million square feet. This project took three years to build, however, the schedule was very fast track for Buesing's scope, especially the first nine months, so that vertical construction could begin as early as possible.
The project comprised of the following quantities:
- 19 acres of podium garage footprint two levels deep
- 470,000 cubic yards of excavated soil and a portion of debris
- 105,000 square feet of shoring (4 different methods)
- 97,000 square feet of shotcrete finish wall around the garage perimeter
- Shotcrete Finish Wall contract was with Suntec Concrete - See that Project Detail
- 65,000 tons of aggregate base course (ABC) material placed over-top the concrete garage deck
